HPCC Systems Technical Presentations 2018

HPCC Systems collaborates with a number of academic institutions in the USA Europe and India. Our intern program, welcomes students on to the HPCC Systems platform team during the summer recess to work on HPCC Systems related projects. We held our first technical presentation competition at our  Community Day Summit in 2016. The aim of this contest is to give students working on HPCC Systems related projects, an opportunity to showcase their work to a wide audience of HPCC Systems open source community members and LexisNexis Risk Solutions Group employees.

The students

There were 10 entries this year representing 9 different academic institutions including Kennesaw State University, Georgia Institute of Technology, Georgia State University, New College of Florida, North Carolina State University, Clemson University, Florida Atlantic University, Keiser University and American Heritage School.

Our judges

Our four judges had the challenge of choosing first, second and third place winners from a wide selection of topics involving very high quality work. Three of our judges were colleagues from LexisNexis Risk Solutions Group:

  • Kunal Aswani, Software Engineer III

  • Prabhu Sadasivam, Director Software Engineering

  • Joe Chambers, Software Engineering Lead 

We were delighted to welcome Fabian Fier to join us as the fourth judge for this contest. Fabian is a Researcher from Humboldt University in Berlin. Fabian presented at our 2018 Community Day Summit about optimising set similarity join and search with different prefix schemes ( Watch Recording / View Slides). Fabian is a regular visitor at this annual event, having spoken about his work in this area at two previous Community Day Summits in 2016 and 2017.
