Poster Abstract

Introduction:

In today's society, many teenagers struggle with gaming addiction, finding it difficult to maintain a healthy balance between gaming and their other life responsibilities. This long standing trend poses numerous challenges for teenagers during adolescence and into adulthood. The pervasive nature of gaming addiction can impact their academic performance, social interactions, physical health, and emotional well-being. Issues such as time management problems, neglect of academic duties, disrupted sleep patterns, and increased stress levels are common consequences. Addressing these challenges requires proactive efforts to promote a more balanced approach to gaming, supporting teenagers in achieving overall well-being and resilience in their daily lives.

Objective:

This poster is dedicated to examine the gaming behavior of teenagers through comprehensive data analysis and visual representations, with the goal of accurately evaluating the severity of their gaming addiction. Leveraging the capabilities of HPCC Systems, an open-source big data analytics platform, provides us with robust statistical insights that illuminate the nuances of gaming habits among teenagers. By gaining a thorough understanding of these metrics, the aim is to forecast effective strategies and interventions aimed at overcoming gaming addiction. Ultimately, the objective is to empower teenagers to adopt a more balanced approach to gaming, thereby improving their overall quality of life and well-being.

Methodology:

This project uses the HPCC system to address gaming addiction among teenagers. We start by collecting and preprocessing data to ensure its quality, including handling missing values. Users provide information about their gaming habits, such as playtime hours and engagement levels. These inputs help us understand the factors contributing to gaming addiction.

The analysis, initially done in Python,is embedded in ECL to leverage the HPCC system’s powerful data handling capabilities. This integration allows the predictive model to efficiently assess addiction severity and classifies the output as high, mid, or low. Visualization tools create graphs and charts that provide clear insights into addiction trends. The aim is to identify risk factors and develop strategies to reduce gaming addiction, ultimately promoting a healthier balance in life and addressing the challenges of excessive gaming among teenagers.
