Sabrina Harris - 2024 Poster Contest Resources

sabrina.png

I am currently pursuing a Master's degree in Applied Data Science at New College of Florida, which is where I met my mentor Bob Foreman when he visited to teach my cohort ECL in January. Prior to this, I earned my Bachelors degree in Accounting from SUNY Plattsburgh in May 2023. My background in accounting has provided me with a strong foundation in analytical thinking, which I am now applying to the field of data science and machine learning. Outside of my studies, I enjoy spending time with my dog, Sophie, who has kept me company while I have been working from home during my internship this summer.

Poster Abstract

This poster presents an exploration of machine learning bundles within HPCC Systems, with a focus on Gaussian Process Regression (GPR), Support Vector Machines (SVM), and the General Linear Model (GLM). It details the process of developing tutorials to aid users in applying these algorithms effectively. Key contributions include the selection and preprocessing of datasets, coding for practical implementation, and the creation of instructional materials. Additionally, the project uncovered and addressed a critical error in the SVM implementation, providing valuable feedback that enhanced the robustness of these tools. This work not only supports the educational goals of HPCC Systems but also contributes to the improvement of the machine learning capabilities of the open-source platform.
