Poster Abstract

Introduction:

Cybersecurity has emerged as a critical concern in the modern world, with cybercrimes on the rise globally. It is crucial to analyze and understand the motives behind these crimes to effectively combat them. This project focuses on visualizing the trends in cybercrime motives across different States and Union Territories of India from 2017 to 2020. By gaining insights into the motives driving cybercrimes, we can develop targeted strategies to address the issue and protect individuals, organizations, and the nation's digital landscape.

Objective:

The project aims to analyze and visualize the patterns and trends in cybercrime motives in India over a span of four years. The visualizations generated through this project can help identify the most common motives behind cybercrimes and understand their distribution across different regions. These insights can serve as a valuable tool to policymakers, law enforcement agencies, and cybersecurity professionals for policy formulation and preventive measures. The project can also help raise awareness among the public about the prevalent cybercrime motives, fostering a culture of cybersecurity and responsible online behavior.

Methodology:

To achieve these objectives, this project utilizes the powerful capabilities of HPCC Systems for data analysis and visualization. The project incorporates the following methodology:

• Data Collection: Collect relevant data on cybercrime motives across different states in India from reliable sources and spray the dataset onto the HPCC clusters.
• Data Preparation: Cleanse and preprocess the data along with removal of unnecessary fields to ensure accuracy and consistency.
• Data Analysis: Utilize the extensive capabilities of ECL to discover patterns and trends in cybercrime motives by grouping similar motives into shared categories, identifying the predominant motive of cybercrimes in various Indian states, examining the trend in cybercrime motives over a four-year period, and observing their growth.
• Visualization: Employ HPCC Systems' Visualization bundle to present the findings in a comprehensive and understandable manner using bar graphs, line graphs, pie-charts etc.
• Interpretation: Analyze the visualizations to gain meaningful insights and draw conclusions about the prevalent cybercrime motives in India.

By adopting this methodology and leveraging the capabilities of HPCC Systems, this project aims to provide actionable insights into the motives driving cybercrimes. Hence, contributing to the development of effective cybersecurity strategies and a safer
digital environment in India
