Poster Abstract

Introduction:

Poverty in India is a complex issue with multiple causes. Despite significant economic growth and development in recent decades, a large proportion of the population still lives in poverty. Based on Education, Unemployment rate and Consumer Price Index of each state in India, data are collected by which Poverty scores are derived and with this data, visualization is presented.

Objective:

The main objective of this poster is to analyze and visualize the data on the causes of poverty in India by using HPCC Systems®, an open-source big data analytics platform. By doing so, it aims to provide valuable insights into the conditions of each state affected by poverty. The ultimate goal is to enable the Government to take appropriate measures in reducing poverty in the country by using these structured data.

Methodology:

The initial step involves collecting datasets on number of Educated, Unemployed, and Consumer Price Index (CPI) of India, with respect to each state for each commodity, from the reliable sources. Following that, the datasets are scanned to eliminate empty values and unnecessary data. Subsequently, individual scores are assigned to each state in India based on the respective data of each dataset. Further, these three datasets are merged into a unified dataset and a new column called Poverty Scores is incorporated, which is calculated as the sum of Education, Unemployment and CPI Scores which was obtained in the previous stage. By leveraging HPCC Systems' Visualization bundle, graphical representations for each score were generated,
depicting the poverty levels across different states of India. This analysis facilitated the identification of states experiencing elevated poverty rates, empowering the Government to make well-informed decisions and implement targeted measures aimed at effectively reducing poverty across the country.
